Male Beta Fish

Have you had a situation similar to this? If you have had a male beta fish that has been happily living by himself for a while and you decide to put a female beta fish in with him in the same tank. You soon find out that the male beta is kinda checking her out whilst the female sits on the bottom as if she is trying to hide.

Well if this is a situation you have been in before the reason is that male betas are commonly known to kill the female after mating with her! Harsh i know but this is how it generally is. There are conflicting ideas on wether betas can live in the same tank as each other, this can be male/female, male/male etc. It is a safer option to keep them apart and only put a male and female beta together for the purpose of breeding (remember to take female out straight after) otherwise ther will be fatal casualties.

This can also be said of keeping other species of fish in the same tank as a beta as they are likely to attack pretty much any fish that is colourful, or has long tails or fins.
